Alex Vasapolli was among 17 students from the East Coast to receive the Evans Scholarship, which includes a full housing and tuition scholarship grant that is offered exclusively to golf caddies.
Vasapolli has spent most of his life on the course, honing his craft at Wycagyl Country Club in New Rochelle. Having earned the Evans Scholarship, Vasapolli will head to Miami University next year on a full ride.
The scholarship has an estimated value of $100,000 over the four years. Other winners were named from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland and New Jersey. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, nominees were judged on four categories: a strong caddie record; excellent academics; demonstrated financial need; and outstanding character.
“Each of these deserving Evans Scholars epitomizes what our Program has been about since its creation in 1930,” Western Golf Association (WGA) Chairman Frank Morley stated. “Their dedication, hard work and sacrifice is humbling, and we are honored to be able to help them pursue their dreams.”
“These young men and women have worked tirelessly to earn this life-changing opportunity,” John Kaczkowski, WGA President and CEO added in a statement. “They have shown excellence in the classroom and in their communities, as well as on the golf course. We welcome them to the Evans Scholars family.”
